DR SANJEEV KHURANA

Paediatric General Surgeon and Urologist
Dr Sanjeev Khurana is a Paediatric Surgeon and Urologist based at both – Women’s & Children’s Hospital as well as Flinders Medical Centre since 2006. Sanjeev is also one of the co-founders of ‘Danny’s Place’ – South Australia’s only provider of holistic care for children with obesity related problems. Besides looking after routine surgical problems in children, Sanjeev’s major interests include gastrointestinal problems such as gastro-oesophageal reflux, gallstones, Hirschsprung’s disease, anorectal anomalies and chronic constipation. Sanjeev also routinely manages all forms of urological problems in children (except bladder extrophy).
When Sanjeev is not busy with work he enjoys his team sports like AFL, Cricket and enjoys playing Squash.
DR RAMMY ABU-ASSI

Paediatric Gastroenterologist
Dr Rammy Abu-Assi is a Paediatric Gastroenterologist who deals with all facets of illnesses related to the gastrointestinal tract, liver and nutrition. He was born in Darwin and came to Adelaide to undertake a medical degree at the University of Adelaide which was completed in 1996. Then went on and undertook paediatric speciality training at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital, subspecialising in gastroenterology. As part of his training he completed a one year fellowship overseas at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Furthermore, he has been awarded a PhD at the University of Adelaide for his research work in the epidemiology of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis) in Australian children. He is trained to undertake endoscopic procedures in children, and works at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital.
He is married with two children, and thus understands the impact that a child’s illness can have on their own health, development and education, as well as the rest of the family.
DR JAIDEEP RAWAT

Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr Jai Rawat is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who has specialised in Paediatric Orthopaedics and works at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and at Flinders Medical Centre. He completed his FRACS in 2012 and is a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
He undertook further paediatric orthopaedic training in Australia and USA and is a member of the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society. His private work is exclusively in Paediatric Orthopaedic. His special areas of interest are paediatric sports injuries (paediatric knee and shoulder), paediatric trauma, deformity correction and congenital hip and foot conditions.
DR JOHN WONG
MBBS, DCH, FRACP, PhD
Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physician
Dr John Wong is the only Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physician that is working privately in South Australia. After graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2005, he commenced Paediatric training in 2007 and sub specialised in Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. In 2011 he moved to Melbourne and worked as the Respiratory Fellow at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He also actively participated in research activities with the world renowned Australian Respiratory Early Surveillance Team for Cystic Fibrosis (AREST-CF) program and completed a PhD with the University of Melbourne. With his research experience he has been invited to speak both in national and international thoracic society conferences.
John moved back to Adelaide with his family in 2013 where he received his Fellowship in Paediatrics subspecialising in Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2014. He is also actively involved in medical teaching providing training and education to general practitioners and also paediatricians in training.
John’s main clinical interests include:
- The snoring child
- Paediatric asthma
- Children with productive and chronic cough.
He has 3 young children to keep him busy and is also long-suffering Liverpool FC supporter.
DR MICHAELA BAULDERSTONE

Dr Michaela Baulderstone is a General Practitioner with specific interests in paediatrics, developmental disability and mental health. A special focus of her work is paediatric continence development, with over 10 years’ experience in this field.
Dr Baulderstone provides appointments on referral, for management of paediatric continence concerns such as functional faecal & urinary incontinence, and persistent nocturnal enuresis.
She also accepts GP referrals via a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) for Focussed Psychological Strategies. Referral with a Mental Health Care Plan is preferred for children presenting with:
- Anxiety, including toileting avoidance, toileting refusal & with-holding behaviours.
- Enuresis
- Functional abdominal pain
However, where a child is experiencing behavioural or emotional concerns, and the GP assesses the child is not currently eligible for a MHCP, a standard referral letter will be accepted.

She is an active member of the RACGP Specific Interest Groups for Child & Young Person Health, ADHD, ASD & Neurodiversity, Disability and Psychological Medicine.

Sara is a registered Psychologist and the mother of four children (now adults). She holds a Science degree, a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, and a PhD in psychological research. Sara has worked for over 26 years in the area of child mental health across a range of clinical, research and leaderships roles.
Sara is a sought after author, trainer, and consultant in the areas of child protection; child mental health; child development; neurodiversity and disability; secure care and therapeutic residential care for youth; and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Sara was awarded the ACU Fellowship at Oxford University in recognition of her work translating the support needs of children in the care system.
Sara believes that children develop and thrive when the adults supporting them understand their unique developmental, social and learning needs. Sara works in partnership with families to maximise developmental opportunities for children, whatever their additional needs.

I am a warm and compassionate clinician with over 20 years of experience in the field of psychology. My ability to connect with people of all ages helps to facilitate change while using a person-centred approach.
My area of expertise lies in the area of counselling and undertaking diagnostic assessments to understand individual profiles (for both children and adults). My work within the public and private sectors over the years have led me to develop a broad set of skills. I have worked with a variety of different profiles including, neuro-developmental disorders, such as ASD, anxiety, learning, behavioural and social/emotional difficulties.
I conduct various assessments, including cognitive / psycho-educational assessments, social / emotional assessments, exploring individuals’ learning profile and needs (i.e., Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, adaptive functioning, ADHD, Intellectual Disability and Giftedness). I am also a trained diagnostician in conducting assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
SHANNON CLIFT
Paediatric Speech Pathologist & Feeding Specialist

Shannon graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Health Science (Speech Pathology) and has worked as a Speech Pathologist for over 20 years. Shannon specialises in the assessment and treatment of paediatric feeding, swallowing and mealtime challenges. Shannon can also provide Diagnostic Assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Referral indicators:
- Breast or bottle feeding difficulties
- Suspected or diagnosed airway malacia
- Coughing, spluttering or gagging with fluids or solids
- Swallowing difficulties and/or query around aspiration
- Difficulties transitioning to solids
- Preference for purees, not progressing to solid pieces of food or finger foods
- Difficulties chewing foods
- Food refusal, fussy eating, restricted diet
- Oral aversions or hypersensitivities
- Sensory based feeding difficulties resulting in decreased acceptance of foods
- Family mealtimes difficult/stressful
Shannon is highly skilled in assessing, treating, and managing a wide range of feeding challenges and has specialised in this field for 15 years both in the acute and outpatient settings. Her experience has included the management of medically complex neonates, newborn and infant feeding such as bottle or breastfeeding difficulties, challenges in transitioning to solids, coughing or spluttering with fluids or solids, food refusal, gagging when eating, chewing difficulties, oral hypersensitivity or aversions, sensory processing, and paediatric swallowing. Shannon is trained in various feeding intervention approaches and can also support families whose children are fussy eaters, or when for various reasons family mealtimes have become challenging or stressful.
In addition to working for several paediatric teams both interstate and overseas across her career, Shannon has worked for SA Health for 15 years and was in the acute hospital setting for the 11 years. She provided Speech Pathology services to paediatric and infant inpatients on the Children’s Ward and in the Special Care Nursery, as well as to paediatric outpatients. This role comprised feeding services as well as being part of an outpatient multidisciplinary/infant development team with Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, providing assessment and intervention to babies and toddlers with delayed development. Shannon’s current positions in SA Health are with a community based early intervention team, predominately providing services related to communication development, as well as working at the Child Development Unit providing Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental assessments. Shannon also works in private practice primarily providing feeding assessment and intervention to newborns and infants.
Shannon is a personable and caring clinician who is passionate about working closely with families. She values the family unit as an integral part of the team whilst partnering together to determine the needs of the child. Shannon prides herself on providing families with expert intervention and care that will support their child in reaching their full potential.
Shannon has expertise in early intervention assessment and therapy for babies, toddlers, and young children with developmental/communication delays, but this is not currently the preferred client group for work at Southside Kids.
